It was an absolute privilege to serve as both a host and speaker at the enlightening event, “My Genotype, Part of My Life.”
Have you ever considered the significant role your genes play in shaping your life? From determining physical traits such as height, eye color, and hair texture to influencing susceptibility to genetic conditions like Sickle Cell Disease, Huntington’s Disease, and Neurofibromatosis—our genotype holds profound implications for our health and relationships.
This topic is particularly close to my heart, as I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by individuals suffering from inherited genetic disorders—often due to a lack of awareness. This event provided a platform to educate and engage the audience on critical aspects such as:
✅ What genotype is and what it determines
✅ The importance of genotype awareness
✅ How genetic compatibility impacts relationships and future generations

The discussions were insightful, interactive, and deeply impactful. By increasing awareness, we can reduce the risk of passing on preventable genetic conditions and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health and family planning.
A heartfelt thank you to my fellow speakers, Dr. Roshina Numfor and Eliel Toukam, for their outstanding contributions. Dr. Numfor provided invaluable insights into the importance of genotype testing and its implications, while Eliel Toukam delivered an eye-opening presentation on Neurofibromatosis and Huntington’s Disease, reminding us that “Love is blind, but my genotype shouldn’t be.”
Special appreciation to Miss Blessing Lum, the regional coordinator, for hosting us, and to the entire Open Dreams family for making this event a success.
