A year ago, while serving in the student government at Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School Mankon, I had the privilege of attending a leadership workshop organized by the Mendem Foundation Inc., Royalty World, and the Transformational Leadership Academy.

It was more than just a workshop; it was a turning point. One of the most memorable activities was a challenge to build the tallest tower using spaghetti strands, tape, rope, and a marshmallow on top. My group won!!, but the real victory was the lesson behind it: no successful empire is built on one person’s effort. Strong foundations, teamwork, and listening to every voice are what make leadership sustainable.
Beyond the game, we engaged in a series of talks that touched every dimension of leadership—spiritual, academic, and organizational. We learned how to guide junior students with respect, how to foster cooperation between student leaders and administration, and most importantly, why transformational leadership is the best model for any environment. It is a style of leadership that inspires, uplifts, and builds others rather than simply directing them.
Looking back a year later, I realize how much those lessons have stayed with me. They continue to shape how I view leadership: not as a position, but as a responsibility to serve, empower, and create lasting impact. I am deeply grateful to the Mendem Foundation Inc. , Royalty World, and the Transformational Leadership Academy for investing in us and reminding us that true leadership begins with self-leadership and grows through teamwork.
