What does it take to journey from the classrooms of Bamenda to one of the world’s most prestigious universities? For Dr. Fabrice Tiku, it has taken resilience, service, and an unwavering commitment to improving health for all.

Eleven years ago, Fabrice graduated from Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Down Town Bamenda. With a passion to save human lives, he pursued medical training at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), University of Bamenda (UBa). His leadership qualities soon stood out.
In 2016/2017, just before the onset of the Anglophone crisis, he was elected President of the Faculty of Health Sciences Students’ Association (FAHSSA). Despite the challenges of that period, he represented FHS & UBa at national events, amplifying the voice of his peers in uncertain times. After medical school, Fabrice founded First Choice Medical Clinic, offering affordable healthcare to families in need. His dedication to underserved communities later took him to Batibo Health District, where he co-reopened CMA Widikum, the largest medical center in the area, restoring critical healthcare services to thousands. Later, Fabrice joined ALIMA, an international NGO, as a field physician. In this role, he focused on treating children under five and pregnant women, two of the most vulnerable groups in fragile health systems. His time with ALIMA deepened his passion for humanitarian medicine and preventive care.

His leadership proficiency pushed him to be appointed as the Chief Medical Officer at The Martins Hospital, Bamenda where he spearheaded medical activities and managed the HIV Treatment Centre. These roles highlighted his belief that healthcare should not only treat illness but also prevent it, empower communities, and restore dignity.
Recognized for his impact, Fabrice received multiple admission offers from leading universities, including Johns Hopkins, Emory, New Haven, Leeds, and Warwick. Ultimately, he chose the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, supported by the prestigious Joint Japan World Bank Scholarship (JJWBS) Program.
Today, from Bamenda to Baltimore, his journey stands as a testament to what is possible when vision meets opportunity.

Dr. Fabrice Tiku remains committed to building stronger health systems and ensuring that no community is left behind.
