On June 5, 2025, the Open Dreams Center buzzed with excitement as a distinguished delegation from MTN Cameroon paid a visit that marked a pivotal moment in our shared journey toward youth empowerment and digital innovation. The MTN team was warmly received by Akaba James, the Country Director of Open Dreams, alongside a vibrant community of Open Dreams Scholars, who raised their voices in unity with the Open Dreams anthem.
James extended a heartfelt welcome to the MTN delegation, introducing several Open Dreams Scholars and highlighting their remarkable profiles, dreams, and the world-class institutions they are headed to. This gesture set the tone for an uplifting afternoon of reflections, inspiration, and renewed commitments.
A Vision of Transformation – Remarks from Mme Fernande Mengbwa (MTN)
Mme Fernande Mengbwa, representing MTN, was visibly moved by the energy and purpose at the OD Center. “I am filled when I am here with you guys today,” she said, her words resonating deeply with all present. She praised the strong sense of community and belonging that defines Open Dreams, calling it a family she is so proud of.
The vision extended beyond the moment. Drawing from the profound impact of Open Dreams, she introduced the concept of the “Open Dreams Village”—a Hub of innovation, excellence, and shared purpose, akin to Silicon Valley. She urged the community to dream boldly and work relentlessly to make this vision a reality.
With sincere humility, she reflected that if she had access to such a transformative platform at a younger age, she might have become one of the world's most outstanding women. It is this sentiment that drives the passion of the MTN Foundation to support and expand Open Dreams' digital facilities and reach.

Mme Fernande Mengbwa emphasized obedience and discipline as keys to success, citing Open Dreams Scholar Afopezi Moses, who leads Skolarr on the ground, as a shining example of these virtues. She also highlighted the spiritual depth of Open Dreams’ mission, calling it a divine opportunity not available to everyone.
One of the most anticipated announcements came from her:
The initial work to set up the Y'ello Digital Center at the Glass House Melen, Yaoundé, was planned for Saturday, June 7th, 2025.
She invited all Open Dreams Scholars and staff to attend, specifying a casual dress code of jeans and tennis shoes.
A key feature of the Y'ello Digital Center - Scholars will enjoy one year of unlimited internet connectivity, a crucial resource for research, academic advancement, and digital inclusion.
Words of Gratitude – Remarks from Program Facilitator, Toulack Kingsley
Mr. Toulack Kingsley expressed heartfelt appreciation to the MTN team, for their steadfast support in making the Digital Center a reality. He emphasized the transformative power this center will have for hundreds of scholars and their communities.
A Culture of Giving Back – Remarks from Mr. Erick Mbitah (MTN)
Mr. Mbitah stressed the importance of giving back, as a core practice for sustainability, vital for the welfare of the Digital Center and Open Dreams as a whole. He encouraged Open Dreams Scholars to pay it forward:
“If you get a scholarship thanks to Open Dreams, come back and help another scholar get one too.”
He reinforced the shared responsibility of every scholar in building the Open Drea,s Village, brick by brick.

A Rekindled Connection – Remarks from Seka Jean Blaise
Seka Jean Blaise warmly acknowledged MTN Digital Center as a true blessing to Open Dreams. He reminisced about the MTN support for young innovators, an example being the Pachi Panda Challenge, where he was one of the winners in Cameroon and in South Africa. He concluded by saluting the lasting spirit of partnership in youth empowerment.
In her final remarks, Mme Fernande Mengbwa applauded Open Dreams for accomplishing extraordinary feats with limited resources. James Akaba wrapped up the session by emphasizing that investments in education, such as those from MTN, are crucial for Cameroon’s national development and innovation.
The meeting concluded with a cheerful group photo session outside the Open Dreams Center, capturing the spirit of unity and shared purpose.
This moment marks the beginning of a new chapter in our mission to empower dreams, fuel innovation, and shape the future together.
