We are proud to celebrate Miki Miyang Limnyuy, an outstanding Open Dreams Scholar, who has graduated with distinction from Ashesi University in Ghana with a Master’s Degree in Mechatronics. Miki was part of the inaugural class of the Mechatronics program—a pioneering initiative run in partnership with ETH Zurich, Switzerland.

The rigorous three-year Master’s program was designed in collaboration with industry leaders including ABB, Barry Callebaut, Bühler, HPW, Holcim, Nestlé, and Tetra Pak. These partners not only shaped the curriculum but also supported students through scholarships and career opportunities.

As a Holcim scholar, Miki completed a six-month industrial experience in Nigeria in one of their plants, where she gained hands on skills in the field. She actively participated in several automation projects and conducted a research thesis in Model Predictive Control for one of their plant applications.

Mechatronics is a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary field that merges Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, and Control Engineering. Earning a Master’s degree in Mechatronics signals high-level problem-solving and design capabilities, as well as expertise in advanced systems like robotics, AI-powered machinery, and automation.

Ashesi University, one of Africa’s most prestigious institutions, is renowned for its focus on leadership, ethics, and entrepreneurship, along with a forward-thinking curriculum tailored to solving African development challenges. Graduating from Ashesi is a mark of discipline, resilience, and a commitment to leading tech-driven change across the continent.

Miki joined Open Dreams after completing her undergraduate studies in Engineering at Polytechnic Yaoundé in 2021. Her admission into the Open Dreams community was based on her academic excellence, leadership potential, and deep commitment to social impact.

During her transitional period at the Open Dreams Center in Yaoundé, Miki was laser-focused on gaining admission to Ashesi University—her dream school. She participated actively in tech and educational programs organized by Open Dreams, most notably the Distance Education Program for Educators sponsored by the U.S. Embassy. At the official launch of the program, she excelled in coordinating a key field experience segment in the presence of U.S. Embassy staff, demonstrating poise and leadership.

While in Ghana, Miki became one of the iconic faces of the Ashesi Mechatronics program. She featured prominently in promotional materials, outreach programs, and speaking engagements aimed at raising awareness about the program and encouraging participation. Two other Open Dreams Scholars are currently in the program.

Besides, at Ashesi, Miki engaged in several academic support activities, including peer-to-peer tutoring, where she and a few of her classmates organized extra classes for students who needed assistance with course materials. She also served as a teaching assistant (TA) for some of her professors, supporting first-year graduate students.

Miki’s story is a powerful example of how investment in education, mentorship, and the right support systems can lead to transformative success. She represents the empowerment of local communities through technology and innovation, and she is a role model for young Cameroonians, especially girls and students from underrepresented regions.

At Open Dreams, we are proud to be a bridge between local talent and global excellence, and Miki’s achievement is a boost to our field engagement. Her journey underscores our commitment to identifying and supporting at the roots promising leaders who will shape Africa’s future through knowledge, innovation, and service.

Congratulations, Miki Miyang Limnyuy! Your journey continues to inspire the Open Dreams Community and beyond.
