Ashesi University Admissions Officers Engage Students at the University of Buea

On March 21st, 2025, the University of Buea received two distinguished admissions officers from Ashesi University, Ghana for an information session on Ashesi Graduate Admissions.

Cecilia Aboagye, Senior Admissions Officer, and Jacob Dodoo, Assistant Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, were warmly received at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) by Dr. Nde Nguti (Vice Dean), Madam Nyeka-Sanga nee Emeli Akanang Eunice (Faculty Officer), and Prof. Agbor Dieudonne Agbor (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology).
The session began with an introduction led by Bate Elvis, Open Dreams Regional Program Coordinator for the South West, who expressed appreciation to the University of Buea authorities for the excellent spirit of collaboration. Following this, Dr. Nde Nguti delivered a welcome address, which was complemented by a brief discourse from Blessing Lum, Open Dreams Regional Program Coordinator for the North West, who traveled into Buea for the program.
A Dynamic and Engaging Information Session
Jacob Dodoo from Ashesi took the stage to enlighten students about Ashesi University’s prestigious standing, notably its ranking among the top 10 universities in Africa according to the Times Higher Education rankings. He then delved into one of the most anticipated highlights of the session—the Mechatronics Engineering Master’s program at Ashesi University.
The discussion sparked great interest among students, who eagerly engaged with numerous questions, demonstrating their enthusiasm for the program and its offerings. Jacob further emphasized the importance of courses that develop both technical expertise and transferable soft skills, equipping graduates for diverse career paths. He also outlined the various academic programs available at Ashesi and detailed the admissions requirements.
At this juncture, an appeal was made to the Ashesi Admissions team regarding the challenges some students face while awaiting their degree certificates, prompting a thoughtful discussion on possible solutions.

Collaboration with ETH Zurich & Closing Remarks
Cecilia Aboagye from Ashesi University then took the floor, highlighting Ashesi’s strategic academic affiliation with ETH Zurich, one of the world’s leading universities and the alma mater of Albert Einstein. She emphasized the significance of this collaboration in delivering a world-class education in Mechatronics Engineering.
The session concluded with a lively Q&A, where students had the opportunity to gain further insights into Ashesi University’s academic structure, admissions process, and career prospects. Following this engaging exchange, the Ashesi team departed for Douala to continue their outreach at other higher institutions.

The visit not only strengthened ties among Ashesi University, Open Dreams and the University of Buea but also provided students with invaluable information on opportunities for further education and professional growth.
