Every once in a while, you step into a space and immediately feel the weight of possibility in the air.

That was exactly the feeling at the Open Dreams Graduate Summit 2025.
The Summit is not just an event. It’s a powerful annual gathering where young dreamers, aspiring scholars, mentors, and global facilitators come together with one mission: to unlock the pathways to graduate scholarships around the world.
This year, it was heartwarming to see scholars and participants travel from across Cameroon — Bamenda, Buea, Douala, Bafoussam, and other towns. Different backgrounds, different journeys, but united by the same fire: the dream of higher education and making an impact through knowledge application.

Over two days, we explored everything it takes to access competitive global opportunities. From Master’s programs to PhD fellowships, from the Commonwealth Scholarships to other prestigious awards, participants were guided on how to prepare compelling applications that stand out.
The sessions went beyond technicalities. They touched on resilience, leadership, personal branding, and building a mindset that thrives even when faced with rejection.
Scholars and facilitators from around the globe shared their journeys — the wins, the setbacks, and the breakthroughs that finally opened doors for them. Their stories were raw, real, and deeply inspiring.
One of the most beautiful aspects of the Summit was the sense of community.
It wasn’t just about listening to lectures. It was about connecting with Open Dreams scholars, alumni, and facilitators across continents.
The Panel discussions created safe spaces where experiences were shared and new bonds were formed.

At the heart of it all was Akaba James, the Country Director of Open Dreams. His leadership and commitment to democratizing access to quality education set the tone for the entire program. Under his coordination, the Summit has become a true launchpad for Cameroonians and Africans who want to dream bigger and achieve more.
For me, this Summit was more than just another program. I had the privilege of serving as a facilitator under the Media Team, ensuring that every slide, every Zoom broadcast, and every technical detail flowed seamlessly. It wasn’t always easy. There were moments of pressure and quick problem-solving. But those moments reminded me of the importance of resilience and teamwork.

Sitting behind the scenes, I watched participants take notes, ask questions, and connect with facilitators. I realized something important: sometimes the most powerful impact you make is not on the stage, but in the little things you do to make others shine.
Walking away from the Summit, I felt deeply inspired by the courage of participants who came from different towns and regions. Some traveled long distances just to be part of this. Their determination reminded me that the journey to scholarships and opportunities starts with showing up.

To anyone reading this, here’s my advice:
Don’t be afraid to dream boldly but also prepare diligently.
Learn from others who’ve gone ahead — their journeys will save you time and mistakes.
Understand that rejection is not the end; sometimes it’s just redirection.
And above all, surround yourself with a community like Open Dreams, where your aspirations are nurtured and your potential is multiplied.

The summit reminded me that when like-minded individuals gather, with a shared passion for education and impact, the impossible suddenly feels within reach.
This Summit will remain unforgettable because it proved that we are stronger together.
And that dreams, when nurtured in the right soil, can grow into global impact. - Claude Tomoh | Open Dreams
