The Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for individuals who have not only changed lives but shaped ecosystems—those who serve as cornerstones in the architecture of opportunity. And this year, that honor goes to a true visionary: Mr. Akaba James, the Director, heart and soul of Open Dreams.

Founded in 2013 in New York, USA by Blaise Buma, Cristina & Hans Kullberg, Open Dreams began with a bold mission: to equalize access to educational opportunities for high-achieving, low-income students across Cameroon and other developing regions.

Under Mr. Akaba’s leadership, it has grown into a dynamic force for equity—establishing learning hubs, launching an online academy, and mentoring scholars to access world-class education.

From Bamenda to Buea, Yaoundé to the Northern Region, his impact echoes in the voices of scholars now studying in some of the best universities across the globe—future leaders, changemakers, and community builders who began their journeys with the guidance of Open Dreams. As part of the wider team, he has not only built programs—he has built hope.

Mr. Akaba James is more than a Director. He is a mentor, architect, and catalyst—a man who sees the extraordinary in ordinary places and who dares to believe that every dream deserves a chance.
