Rene Mbapou is originally from the Center Region of Cameroon, precisely Eton by origin. His academic journey has been marked by resilience and determination. While studying at Sacred Heart College, Mankon - Bamenda, the outbreak of the Anglophone Crisis forced him to relocate as an academic refugee, first to Premier International College, Garoua, and later to Holy Infant High School, Yaoundé.

After completing high school, Rene joined the Open Dreams Community through the 2022 Summer Academy (Batch of Resilience).
Even after leaving Bamenda for safer ground, Rene never forgot those he left behind. Together with fellow scholar Jania Yosimbom, he co-founded Youth Empowerment Cameroon, an organization that fosters opportunities for young people to build skills, develop critical awareness, and take active roles in shaping a better future. In the midst of insecurity, Youth Empowerment Cameroon organizes leadership programs, shares opportunities, mentors peers, and supports vulnerable youth in sustaining hope.
Following his studies at ICT University, Yaoundé, where he served as a Student Assistant in the Admissions Office, Rene is now pursuing Data Science and Big Data, with a Minor in Artificial Intelligence, at Sichuan University, China.
At Open Dreams, we believe in the transformative potential of our scholars. The more they learn and expand their networks, the greater their ability to create lasting impact in their communities, driving the domino effect of empowerment and positive change.
