On Saturday, August 31st, 2024, I had the honor of participating in theย Open Dreams Educational NGOย Summer 2024 Pre-Scholars Graduation Ceremony in Douala. It was an inspiring day, not only as a facilitator during the summer session but also as a member of the Jury for innovative projects at the graduation.

1๏ธโฃ Inspiration & emotional learning:
For nearly 6 weeks, over 30 energetic young minds, supported by their parents and the dedicated Open Dreams team led byย Guilian Asongtia, embarked on a journey of self-discovery. Facilitators from diverse fields like business, leadership, personal development etc. shared their expertise. Hearing that my segment resonated deeply with the pre-scholars reminded me of why we started the D.A.D. method (Discover, Learn, and Develop) at Medical Art Academy 15 months ago. Our goal is to transform learning into an emotional experience that stimulates the limbic system, ensuring long-term retention. Our memory thrives when emotions are involved.
2๏ธโฃ Critical Thinking and Innovation:
The group project presentations were a highlight, where learners identified real-world problems and proposed innovative business solutions. As a jury member, I observed that the most revolutionary ideas often arise from unfamiliar challenges. This reinforces the idea that the greatest innovations come from problems we haven't personally faced. Business = Problem + Solution.
3๏ธโฃ Inspiration and Aspiration:
The graduation ceremony was a powerful reminder of the impact we have on others. Seeing the passion in a young pre-scholar who dream of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon left a lasting impression on me. This moment reminds us that the world is built on small actions, and each of us has something unique to contribute. As Michelle Obama says in her book "The Light We Carry", we all have a light that just needs to be turned on. Be the switch that turns on the light for others.
4๏ธโฃ Words of Wisdom:
The speech by the juryโs rapporteurย Bill Aghaย resonated deeply: "Summer 2024 has ended, but the journey is just beginning. Donโt go to sleep, because your dream starts now. Donโt fear failure; rise each time with greater determination. Develop your leadership, stay focused, and move forward."
As a facilitator and jury member, I gained invaluable insights from this experience. My heartfelt thanks go to all my colleagues,ย Guilian Asongtiaย and the entire Open Dreams team, especiallyย James Akabaย Cristina Bernardo Kullbergย Hans Kullberg.
