Throughout my life, I have been taught that education is not just a privilege but a powerful tool that can shape one’s destiny. However, my journey to academic success has been anything but ordinary.
Growing up in a region marred by sociopolitical unrest, I tested my resolve. At a time when most students were there studying, I was forced to Stay at home which was surrounded by uncertainty. The crises disrupted everyday life, and the simple act of attending school became dangerous. Yet, despite the risks, I remained true in my pursuit of knowledge.
During the “ghost town “periods when fear kept many indoors, I chose to attend classes, determined not to let the circumstances derail my education. I knew that every lesson was a step closer to my dream, and each day I risked my safety, I was reminded of the importance of perseverance.
I took it upon myself to attend additional classes, even those intended for Arts students in order to broaden my understanding and gain a well-rounded education. In the face of all the adversity, I achieved top grades earning 11A grades in 11 subjects at the GCE Ordinary level examination. Through these experiences, I learned that true success lies not in the absence of challenges but in the ability to rise above them.
I am seeking scholarship opportunities because I believe that my resilience, academic achievements and dedication to learning make me a worthy candidate. With a scholarship, I hope to further my education, and learn different skills which will enable me to impact my life, family, and the society. I am confident that the support from the scholarship will allow me to thrive academically and personally, enabling me to turn the hardships I’ve faced into a foundation for future success.
During the school year 2023/2024 I was officially a candidate of the GCE ordinary level as frequently stressed on by the administration of my school PCHS Bamenda. During the pre-mock examination, I was the best student scoring 10A’s and a B grade. This drew the attention of the administration and admiration of several students towards me. In the mock I was the best in my class but not in the school with 29 points which was predated by the GCE in which I earned 33 points. However, the road to success wasn’t all that easy with frequent ghost towns which didn’t move my resolve because I took it as another challenge I must overcome. I took risks and moved out of my comfort zone and attended lessons with teachers who were present at school. Also, I took advantage of every opportunity to study because I knew it was the stepping stone to greatness.
To conclude, I am resilient, a risk taker, and determined to be educated not only to know but to make a change and I believe that I am a worthy candidate for sponsorship because from this, many things will change about my family, then to my community and God willing the world at large
