In memory of my late father, I founded St. Patrick’s Clinic Melim in Bui Division, North West Region of Cameroon — a beacon of hope delivering essential healthcare amid the Anglophone crisis. Here’s how one family’s pain became a community’s strength.

In the quiet hills of Bui Division in the North West Region of Cameroon, where conflict has disrupted social life for 10 years, displacing hundreds of thousands and taking away thousands of lives, a small clinic stands as a symbol of resilience and restored hope. St. Patrick’s Clinic opened its doors in September 2025, not just as a healthcare facility, but as a living tribute to my late father, Jumbam Patrick Lemnyuy.

I was only 4 years old when I lost him to à preventable cause. That early experience of grief, compounded by limited access to quality healthcare in our community, planted a seed that would define my life’s work. As a medical doctor and public health advocate, I promised myself I would bridge the gaps that so many families still face today. St. Patrick’s Clinic is that promise fulfilled.

Received and blessed by my mothers (a local women's Common Initiative Group, Biiimela). They exalted the initiative, prayed for me, and blessed it.

Named in honor of my father, the clinic was built on three pillars:

·       accessible primary care,

·       preventive health education, and

·       community empowerment.

Serving in a Conflict Zone: Challenges and Commitment

Operating a private health facility in a conflict-affected area brings unique hurdles — unpredictable security situations, disrupted supply chains, and families displaced from routine care. Yet, our team of seven young local employees has remained steadfast.

We have provided direct services to over 2,000 community members, performed more than 40 surgeries (including emergency obstetrical procedures), and managed chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes that would otherwise go untreated in such settings.

Our community outreach preventive programs focus on maternal and child health, hygiene education, and early disease detection.

Beyond clinical services, the clinic creates employment opportunities for youths. By employing and training young youths from the community, we’re not only delivering healthcare — we are contributing to economic stability and long-term peacebuilding in the region.

Beyond our healthcare services, we partner with LifeAxis Academy and local schools to provide 12 scholarships for underprivileged children who are either orphans of war victims or whose parents are unable to pay their fees due to socio-economic hardship forced on them by the conflict.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mr. Arlin Green and his family — my cherished American host family during the Mandela Washington Fellowship. Their generous donation directly funded the acquisition of a biochemistry analyzer (machine) valued at over $1,400.

This machine has transformed our laboratory services. It now enables us to quickly measure essential blood parameters such as glucose, kidney and liver function tests, electrolytes, and other critical markers right here at the clinic.

In a conflict-affected area like Bui, where sending samples to distant laboratories is often slow, risky, or impossible, this equipment means faster diagnoses, same-day treatment decisions, and better management of common conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease. Patients receive timely care without dangerous travel, leading to improved health outcomes and greater trust in our services.

Thank you, Mr. Arlin Green and Family, for this life-changing support. Your kindness bridges continents and directly strengthens our ability to serve the people of Bui with excellence and compassion.

I can’t end this page of gratitude without a sincere appreciation of the Open Dreams team, Hans Kullberg and James Akaba for facilitating the transfer of this donation.

Lessons in Resilience and Purpose

Founding and running St. Patrick’s Clinic in the midst of crisis has taught me profound lessons about leadership and Stoic principles: focus on what you can control, act with purpose, and build what the world needs even when circumstances are unfair.

This journey aligns with my broader mission through initiatives like the Healthi First Initiative, CAMYPNET, and the emerging SheyDoc tele-mental health platform — proving that sustainable change comes from combining compassion with practical innovation.

Looking Ahead

St. Patrick’s is more than a clinic — it is a foundation for scalable, community-owned healthcare solutions across conflict-affected regions in Cameroon and beyond. Our next goals include further improvement of our Laboratory , expanding mental health integration, strengthening our surgical capacity, and deepening digital health tools to reach even more people.

Join Us in This Mission

If my father were here, I believe he would be proud of what this clinic represents: hope, resilience, and the power of turning personal loss into collective gain.

You can support St. Patrick’s Community Clinic through:

•  Donations or medical supply contributions

•  Laboratory or theatre équipement donations

•  Spreading awareness by sharing this story

•  Helping us build partnerships with organizations committed to health equity in Africa

Together, we can ensure that no community is left behind in this unfortunate crisis, even in the hardest places.
