A glimpse of what’s ahead at Dartmouth as the four-year STEM Journey begins | Joan Nchang

Reflecting on my time with the Summer D.A.S. (Dartmouth Adventures in STEM) program as part of the E.E. Just Program at Dartmouth College, and honestly, it’s hard to put into words just how transformative this brief experience has been. In such a short time, we’ve been immersed in different STEM fields—getting hands-on exposure, tackling challenging ideas, and getting a genuine preview of the academic journey ahead. But as incredible as the coursework has been, the community and the people made it truly unforgettable.

A few highlights that made this time so special: 

• Brilliant & Accessible Faculty: The professors are brilliant, welcoming, and genuinely supportive. Dartmouth’s deep focus on undergraduate education makes all the difference, creating an environment where you feel truly invested in from day one. 

• A Home Away from Home: I celebrated my birthday during the program, and everyone made it feel so warm, loving, and special. I came into this program excited for the academics, but I’m leaving with a close-knit group of friends who already feel like family. 

• The Dartmouth Environment: Even just a taste of Dartmouth has meant the world to me. The collaborative spirit, the curiosity, and the support embedded in the E.E. Just community make it a uniquely special place to learn and grow.
