Report: Training course for officers focusing on Human Rights in Africa | Juliet Frimpomaa

I am excited to share that I recently completed an intensive training course for officers focusing on Human Rights in Africa, in Yaounde, Cameroon. Organized by prestigious entities including the European Union Delegation to Cameroon, #EUCTI, #ScuolaSuperioreSant'Anna, #FoundationForPeaceandSolidarity, and #IRIC, the experience was enriching and insightful.

Here's a glimpse into what we covered each day:

👉Day 1

We explored the UN Human Rights policy framework, delved into UN treaty and charter-based mechanisms, and examined the OHCHR mandate and policies. We also delved into the EU's role in Human Rights Field Operations (HRFO), understanding its policy framework, practices, and lessons learned.

👉Day 2

We immersed ourselves in the fundamental principles and elements of International Human Rights law and National Human Rights Systems. Additionally, we explored the evolution of international humanitarian law and its relevance, especially in situations of armed conflicts.

👉Day 3

We focused on the HRFO mandate, learning how to effectively collect, assess, and handle information. Also, gained valuable insights into interview techniques, and reporting methods, and received training in psychological first aid.

👉Day 4

We Engaged in rigorous training on Human Rights Investigation/Fact-finding, understanding the principles and rules governing the conduct of human rights officers. We explored HRFO dilemmas and emphasized the special protection needed for vulnerable groups in peace operations.

I am grateful for the opportunity to deepen my understanding and commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in Africa and beyond. I can't wait to implement all I learned on the field.
